There can be many causes for lower back pains; however it is usually narrowed down to problems with the straining of muscles or a degenerative disease.Curiously, the severity of back pains is often not related to the pain caused.
As an example, lower back pains that result from a common muscle strain can cause extreme pain and it can be difficult for someone to even stand, where as in the case of a degenerative disc disease, the pain is almost nonexistent. The types of back pains are acute and chronic.
If you have acute back pains, you can expect to have them for up to several weeks. You know if your pains are chronic when they do not cease even after a period of three months has passed. Usually, acute back pains are caused by injuries to your lower back.
Muscle strain does not sound too serious, but it causes severe pain and it is the cause of most visits to emergency rooms. A muscle strain takes place by stretching it too far or tearing it.
When you have strained or torn muscles in the lower area of your back, that area will become swollen. Right along with inflammation, there come the severe back pains and the difficulty of movement. You can usually cure pains from back strains with some rest.
It is fortunate for us, for everybody, that the muscles in the lower back are usually quick to heal. They have a large blood supply so that they do not lack the necessary nutrients.
If the pain in the lower back is pretty severe, then the patient could be encouraged to rest. However this should not be for more than a few days. Some medications, heat or cold application, may help in alleviating the pain caused by these sore muscles.
If you endure an episode of pain in the lower back, then it might be a sign that these might start to weaken. Everybody has the instinct not to use a muscle if it hurts. This is a mistake however, by disusing the muscles in the lower back, they weaken and thus cause even more pain as they atrophy and cannot sustain weight like they used to.
It is a well known fact that people who exercise a lot, are more likely not suffer from lower back pains than those who do not. Regular working out of these muscles stretches and strengthens them.
The back muscles have the role of supporting the spine and therefore you should take extra care of them.
While most of these muscles that support your spine are used day to day life, most of them do not receive the kind of exercise they need, so with age they will begin to weaken.
To prevent this, you need a full exercise program that will work for each of these muscles. So for some lower back treatment you might want to try some stretching of your lower back, followed by some back strengthening exercises and you might wrap up with some low-impact aerobics.
